Experienced left half who began his career with his home town club Seaham Harbour. He joined Blackpool in 1910 and played 92 times (one goal) for them before a move to Burnley in 1913 for a fee of £750. The war interrupted his time there but he played 72 Football League games for them scoring three times. He was selected to play for the Football League but had to withdraw through illness and he was also an England reserve for the wartime international v Wales in October 1919. After the war he joined Blackburn for £3,000 and appeared 85 times (one goal) before joining the Imps in September 1922. He was to prove a fine coach to the younger players at the Club and an inspired captain. Making 69 appearances (nine goals) it was also noted that “it was a pity he had not more adequate material to work upon!” He finished his career at Rochdale (31 apps) and died in 1935.
