Born in Hull in December 1893, Archibald Roe played for six Football
League clubs but only amassed 59 games and 18 goals. His clubs were
South Shields (where he scored their very first Football League
goal), Birmingham, Gillingham, Arsenal, City and Rotherham with 27 of
his games and 12 goals (our top scorer in 1923/24) coming with us.
Described as hard as nails despite only being of moderate
height (he was 58 tall) he was a Sheffield publican
at the time of his death, which occurred whilst he was visiting his
daughter in Wigan.
