Born in Barrow, Henry Roberts played 17 times for his home town club
(scoring three goals) before joining Chesterfield where he had an
identical record. His first season at Sincil Bank (1928/29) saw just
10 Football League appearances and two goals but the following season
he was top scorer with 21 goals in just 23 games, twice scoring four
in a match. It prompted Port Vale to sign him and he scored nine
times in 24 League games for them before another move to Millwall.
This time he only managed 25 goals in 115 games but did make an
England appearance, scoring in a 4-1 win over Belgium in May 1931. He
later appeared for Peterborough and Spalding in non-League football
and died in 1984.
