Bedford-born Alan Marriott, who started his career as a youngster
with Tottenham Hotspur, played a total of 395 League and cup games
for the Imps, putting him at the top of the Club's appearance chart
for goalkeepers.
Marriott spent nine years at Sincil Bank having joined City from
Spurs in the summer of 1999 but was forced to wait six months before
being handed his Football League debut, being unable to dispose
fellow custodians John Vaughan and Barry Richardson.
But once he managed to force himself into the first team, Alan was a
regular feature in the City squad and notched up his 300th first team
appearances for the Imps in April 2006.
A firm favourite amongst the City supporters, Marriott's 'clean
sheet' against Torquay United on February 10th 2007 saw him break a
long-standing Club record with the shutout against the Gulls being
his 100th for the Club in League and cup competitions.
This saw him break the record which was held by Dan McPhail, a
regular from the 1930s whilst his outing against Swindon Town the
following month - his 310th League game - saw him break McPhail's
all-time Club goalkeeping appearance record.
Marriott left Sincil Bank in the summer of 2008 having kept 106 clean
sheets from his 351 Football League appearances and subseqently
joined Rushden & Diamonds before moving to Mansfield Town in
January 2009.
