John Gregson spent five years at Blackpool but only made three
Football League appearances although with Stanley Matthews the first
choice winger that is hardly surprising. He had more joy at Chester
(32 apps/5 goals), Shrewsbury (56 apps/6 goals) and Mansfield (75+1
apps/5 goals) before spending 1967/68 at Sincil Bank. He played in 31
(+5 sub) Football League games scoring three times as well as
appearing in all five League Cup games as we reached the Fourth Round
for our best run in the competition. He left for Cambridge United in
1968 and was still with them when they joined the League in 1971
making 32 appearances for them. He was awarded a testimonial match by
Cambridge in January 1972 when a crowd of 4,000 saw Ipswich win 2-0.
