One of very few players to have been born in Singapore, Matt Carmichael joined the Imps after serving as an Army PT instructor and playing for several southern based non-League sides including (at the time) Wycombe Wanderers. He scored on his City debut against Scunthorpe in August 1989 and went on to make 113 appearances (plus 20 as substitute) scoring 18 goals in four seasons at Sincil Bank. He was voted “Player of the Season” in 1991/92 but left at the end of the following season (in part exchange for David Hill) for Scunthorpe for whom he scored 20 goals in just 51 starts (+11 sub appearances). Later had brief spells at Barnet, Preston North End, Mansfield Town, Doncaster Rovers and Darlington before leaving the Football League and playing for plenty of non-League sides.
