Born in Dudley, Worcestershire Albert began his career at his local club Dudley Town before joining Notts County in March 1952. After 11 goals in 31 games Sheffield Wednesday spent £6,000 on him in July 1955 and whilst at Hillsborough he won a Division 2 champions medal in 1956. Further moves to Rotherham and Doncaster followed before he joined the Imps in November 1961. Thirty-eight Football League appearances brought four goals before a return to Doncaster (in exchange for Bob Rooney) and spells at Bradford Park Avenue and Hartlepool ended his League career after 485 games and 99 goals.
